Switzerland to host US–Iran talks within days, Pakistani sources say
Pakistan's Interior Minister Naqvi departs for Tehran to discuss next phase of negotiations with Iranian leadership
ISLAMABAD (AA) — Technical-level talks between the United States and Iran are expected to begin in Switzerland within the next day or two, Pakistani government sources told Anadolu on Saturday.
“Pakistan, together with other mediators, is in touch with both sides, who are expected to meet in Switzerland in a day or two to begin the next phase of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” a source close to the mediation process said.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi departed for Tehran on Saturday to discuss the next phase of negotiations with Iran’s leadership, confirmed by both Iranian state media and Pakistani sources.
The talks had been delayed after Iran postponed the technical-level meetings to protest what it described as continued Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon.
The Switzerland venue had originally been set for Friday, which would have launched the agreed 60-day negotiation period under the memorandum signed by President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Pakistan has played a central role throughout the peace process, having brokered an initial ceasefire on April 8 before hosting the highest-level direct talks between Washington and Tehran on April 12 and 13 — the first such encounter since the two countries severed diplomatic relations in 1979.
