Saudi university, King Faisal, joins global network as ‘Innovation District’
Saudi institution recognized by IASP for research excellence, patents, and innovation growth
AL-AHSA, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — King Faisal University (KFU) has been officially recognized as an “Innovation District” by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), making it one of the first Saudi universities to attain this classification.
University President Prof. Adel bin Mohammed Abu Zanada said the recognition reflects the strong support provided to Saudi universities through the Kingdom’s education, research, and innovation ecosystem, which has enhanced their regional and international standing.
The classification, achieved in cooperation with the Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at strengthening the Kingdom’s role on the global innovation map.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Prof. Abu Zanada highlighted the university’s recent achievements, noting that KFU ranked first worldwide in patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in 2024.
He also pointed to a 350 percent growth in research output over the past five years as evidence of the institution’s commitment to advancing innovation.
IASP, a global network with more than 350 members across nearly 80 countries, classifies members under categories such as “Business Incubator,” “Science Parks,” “Innovation Districts,” and “Areas of Innovation.”
KFU’s admission under the “Innovation District” category places it among leading institutions driving research, patents, and innovation worldwide.
