Saudi cyber economics center unveils global research on cybersecurity risks
Cybersecurity research initiative aims to help governments and businesses measure cyber risks, strengthen resilience and support evidence-based economic policy decisions
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — The Centre for Cyber Economics (CCE), a joint initiative of the Global Cybersecurity Forum and the World Economic Forum, has announced a new set of research priorities aimed at improving global understanding of the economic impact of cyber threats and strengthening cybersecurity resilience.
The priorities were approved during the center’s third executive committee meeting in Riyadh, where members reviewed progress since its launch.
They also discussed future research to help governments, businesses and policymakers better assess the economic impact of cyber incidents and the value of investing in cybersecurity, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The committee identified five priority areas for future research, including measuring cybersecurity’s impact on national economies and developing the cybersecurity workforce.
It also aims to strengthen cyber insurance and risk management, create resilience indicators for critical industries, and assess the economic costs of cyberattacks.
CCE Managing Director Alaa Al-Faadhel said the economic implications of cybersecurity have become increasingly significant for governments, businesses and societies around the world.
He added that the center aims to support better policy and investment decisions through international cooperation, research and evidence-based analysis.
The Riyadh-based center was established to provide policymakers with analytical tools to better understand the relationship between cybersecurity and economic growth while promoting global collaboration on cyber resilience.
The CCE was officially launched during the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos in 2025.
It brings together governments, private sector organizations and academic institutions to conduct research and provide data-driven insights on cyber risks and the economic benefits of investing in stronger cybersecurity systems.
