Republican congressman seeks veto-proof push for release of Epstein documents
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie is pushing for a veto-proof majority to force the release of all Jeffrey Epstein documents
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – Republican Congressman Thomas Massie is pushing for a veto-proof majority to force the release of all Jeffrey Epstein documents, arguing that overwhelming bipartisan support would ensure the files become public regardless of any White House objections.
Massie said Sunday he expects broad Republican backing—possibly more than 100 votes—from lawmakers who support transparency. He emphasized that securing a two-thirds majority in both chambers would make the legislation immune to presidential veto.
The push gained momentum last week when a discharge petition reached the required 218 signatures, boosted by Democratic Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva. Massie warned colleagues that a vote against transparency would place them on the wrong side of history: “The record of your vote will last longer than President Trump’s time in office,” he said, adding that opponents would effectively be voting “to protect pedophiles.”
He also raised concerns that Trump’s request for Justice Department investigations into Epstein’s connections could create a “smokescreen” to delay document release.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died by suicide in a federal jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. The release effort continues to draw global attention, including from observers in Turkey following debates over political accountability in Western capitals.
