Puntland leader warns Somalia risks losing global support
Saeed Abdullahi Deni urges unity amid escalating political tensions.
MOGADISHU (MNTV) – Saeed Abdullahi Deni, president of Somalia’s Puntland state, has cautioned that ongoing political infighting risks alienating international allies, urging President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to prioritize unity over propaganda.
Deni stressed that rhetoric alone cannot govern Somalia and warned of diminishing global patience with the federal government’s failure to resolve internal divisions.
He called on Somali leaders to address challenges realistically and collaboratively, emphasizing that unity and inclusivity are essential for progress.
“The time has come for all leaders to open their eyes to reality and work together to resolve tensions,” he said, advocating a cooperative approach to bridge the nation’s divides.
Deni’s remarks precede a National Consultative Council meeting slated for next month, where federal and regional leaders will address pressing national issues.
However, Deni has vowed to boycott the meeting unless President Mohamud reverses recent decisions that he claims breach prior agreements.
The growing rift underscores Somalia’s political fragility, with conflicts between the federal government and regional states jeopardizing efforts to stabilize the Horn of Africa nation.
