Pakistan signals imminent US-Iran agreement as mediator intensifies diplomatic efforts
China endorses Islamabad's role in bridging Tehran and Washington as negotiations accelerate
BEIJING (MNTV) – During meetings in the Chinese capital on Monday, Pakistan’s military leadership indicated that resolution of the Iran-US dispute is drawing near, as Islamabad amplifies its role as intermediary between the two adversaries.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, who leads Pakistan’s armed forces, met with Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, to discuss progress in Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington. The encounter took place during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s state visit to China, according to reporting from the Chinese Foreign Ministry via China Daily.
Munir provided Wang with an update on Pakistan’s diplomatic activities, detailing how Islamabad has been working to ease the longstanding tensions dividing Iran and the United States. The Pakistani military chief had previously spent time in Tehran the week before, where he engaged with top Iranian officials to advance the negotiation process.
Expressing Pakistan’s commitment, Munir indicated the country would maintain its diplomatic endeavors and suggested that Beijing could contribute meaningfully to resolving the impasse. Wang responded positively, praising Pakistan for its neutral stance and committing China’s backing for Islamabad’s mediation initiative.
The exchange reflected broader momentum in behind-the-scenes diplomacy aimed at breaking the protracted standoff. In recent months, multiple actors—including Pakistan, Qatar, and several Gulf nations—have attempted to bring the two sides together. Earlier this year, Pakistan facilitated meetings between American and Iranian representatives in its territory, though progress eventually slowed when both parties remained firm on competing objectives.
Separately that same day, Chinese leader Xi Jinping received Prime Minister Sharif, highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic significance and expressing admiration for its efforts toward regional stability. Xi underscored the strength of the Sino-Pakistani relationship, calling it an enduring alliance.
These overlapping engagements reflect the strategic weight attached by both Beijing and Islamabad to achieving a settlement and preserving peace across the region.
