Malaysia’s world champs look to conquer All England
Malaysian duo are driven by desire for a deep run in Birmingham as they have not advanced beyond the second round of prestigious tournament
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (MNTV) – Wearing the mantle as world champions, mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei aim to make an impact at the All England next month, reports NST.
The Malaysian duo are driven by a desire for a deep run in Birmingham as they have not advanced beyond the second round of the prestigious tournament.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei have thrice competed in the All England — the oldest badminton tournament in the world — and their best result was reaching the second round in 2024.
But this time, they will head to the Super 1000 tournament with renewed confidence and determination.
Their decision to skip the German Open underlines their All England intent.
Currently, ranked world No. 4, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have yet to win a Super 750 or Super 1000 title, but they are now looking to change all that.
Ee Wei said discipline in training and maintaining consistency would be key to producing results on the big stage. “When we go for tournaments, of course we want to win. But first we must give our best in training and stay disciplined. The rest will follow.”
The pair had a shaky start to the year, suffering early exits at the Malaysia Open and India Open before bouncing back to capture the Indonesia Masters last month.
The victory has provided a timely lift, restoring belief after a difficult spell and reinforcing their status as one of the world’s top mixed doubles pairs.
“Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. As top players, we must accept that and keep trusting the process.”
Ee Wei said she does not want to burden herself with added pressure, even as expectations grow following their success in Indonesia. “I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. We trust our coach and each other.”
Staying injury-free is also a priority as they navigate a packed international calendar. “The important thing now is consistency and to avoid injuries. If you are injured, everything becomes difficult,” she said.
Ee Wei believes she and Tang Jie are on the right track for Birmingham, and hopes their Indonesian triumph will serve as the catalyst for a deeper run at the All England.
