BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (MNTV) — Kyrgyz wrestler Akzhol Makhmudov clinched a gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, marking Kyrgyzstan’s first top-podium finish of the tournament, organizers said.
Competing in the Greco-Roman 77-kilogram category, Makhmudov beat opponents from Tunisia and Egypt before overcoming an Iranian athlete representing Qatar to reach the final.
He then defeated another Iranian wrestler for the gold.
Two more Kyrgyz wrestlers reached the podium. Asan Zhanyshov took bronze after shutting out Azerbaijan’s Islam Abbasov 9–0, while Razzak Beishekeyev secured another bronze with a win over an Afghan competitor.
