Kuwait ratifies defense cooperation pact with Pakistan
Five-year agreement, signed in 2023, covers military training, intelligence sharing, defense technology, and joint exercises, formalized amid Gulf security tensions
ISLAMABAD (MNTV) — Kuwait has ratified a broad defense cooperation agreement with Pakistan, three years after it was signed, according to the country’s official gazette.
The pact, signed in June 2023, was approved and published Sunday in the gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm, the Kuwait Times reported.
It establishes a framework for cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces spanning military training and education, intelligence sharing, logistics, defense technology, research, and exchanges of expertise, along with military manufacturing, electronic communications systems, scientific research, and military media, cultural, and sports activities.
A joint military committee will oversee implementation, including joint exercises and official visits.
The agreement runs for five years and renews automatically unless either side ends it, and commits both to protecting confidential military information and settling disputes through diplomatic channels.
The ratification follows a series of high-level contacts between Kuwaiti and Pakistani military officials in recent months.
The formalization comes as Kuwait deepens security cooperation with partners amid heightened tensions in the Gulf.
It has been among several Gulf states caught up in the recent regional escalation: Tehran has said its missile and drone strikes were aimed at US military facilities hosted by those states, while Kuwaiti authorities said their air defenses intercepted projectiles that entered the country’s airspace.
