Israeli strikes kill four in Lebanon as Iran warns of retaliation
Drone attacks in southern Lebanon raise tensions despite diplomatic efforts to end regional hostilities
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) – Israeli drone strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least four people, prompting Iran to warn of a possible response and increasing concerns over renewed regional escalation.
Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli drones targeted several vehicles in the south, including strikes in Mayfadoun and Shoukin that caused civilian casualties.
According to Lebanese reports, two people were killed after a drone struck a vehicle in Mayfadoun, followed by another attack when people gathered at the scene. A separate strike in Shoukin also killed two people.
Iran’s military command condemned the attacks and warned that continued Israeli operations in southern Lebanon could lead to a response from Tehran, accusing Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement.
The Iranian command said Israel had breached the truce dozens of times since the announcement of a US-backed regional ceasefire arrangement and called for an end to what it described as ongoing aggression.
The latest strikes came despite diplomatic efforts involving Iran and the United States to reduce tensions across the region. Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has decreased but has continued through intermittent attacks.
Lebanese officials said Israeli forces carried out drone operations, missile launches, and artillery attacks in southern Lebanon while surveillance drones remained active over Beirut.
Israel’s military claimed it targeted areas where it said rocket activity had taken place and stated that its forces struck a launcher after intercepting projectiles.
The Israeli army also said it attacked a vehicle after identifying what it called a security threat near its troops.
Lebanese authorities said the conflict has caused extensive destruction and displacement, with thousands killed and more than a million people forced from their homes since fighting intensified.
Regional tensions remain high as Lebanon continues to face the consequences of the wider confrontation involving Israel, Iran and resistance groups in the region.
