GAZA, Palestine (AA) — An Israeli airstrike late Friday killed 11 members of a single family in Gaza City’s eastern al-Zeitoun neighborhood, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense.
Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said the victims, all from the Shaaban family, included seven children and two women. Their vehicle was struck shortly after crossing the “yellow line,” a demarcation separating areas under Israeli military control from those open to Palestinian movement.
Basal said the attack occurred without warning.
“It was possible to warn them or deal with them in a way that would not lead to death,” he said, adding that the strike “confirms the occupation’s determination to commit crimes against innocent civilians.”
The “yellow line” was established under a ceasefire agreement reached on Oct. 10 through regional and international mediation, outlining partial Israeli withdrawals to new positions inside Gaza.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians in Gaza—most of them women and children—and left much of the enclave in ruins.
