Israel tells southern Lebanon villagers to stay away from border despite truce
Israeli military issued fresh warnings Monday telling southern Lebanese civilians to keep away from border areas
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) – Despite a ceasefire in place since last Thursday, the Israeli military issued fresh warnings Monday telling southern Lebanese civilians to keep away from border areas and dozens of villages, saying military operations in the region are continuing.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced through social media that civilians were barred from moving south of a line covering multiple villages and surrounding areas across southern Lebanon.
He additionally warned people against approaching the Litani River, the Salhani Valley and the Slouqi area, and told residents not to attempt to return to border villages including Naqoura, Maroun al-Ras, Bint Jbeil, Aita al-Shaab and Mays al-Jabal.
The warnings came despite a 10-day temporary truce that took effect last Thursday and has since seen reported violations.
Israel’s offensive in Lebanon, which began on March 2, has killed approximately 2,300 people, wounded more than 7,500 and forced over one million from their homes, according to Lebanese authorities.
