Israel strikes Lebanon-Syria border, killing two
Air raids hit multiple crossings and southern villages despite ceasefire, drawing condemnation from Lebanese authorities
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Israeli airstrikes hit several border crossings between Lebanon and Syria, killing at least two people and wounding 19 others, Lebanese security and emergency officials said.
The strikes targeted four crossings along the porous frontier, as well as villages and towns in southern Lebanon including Qanarit, al-Kharayeb, al-Ansar, Kfour and Jarjouh.
Emergency teams said among the wounded were journalists who sustained minor injuries while covering the attacks.
Earlier in the day, Israeli strikes also hit vehicles in Zahrani in the Sidon district and in Bazuriyeh near Tyre, killing one person in each location. AFP reporters at the scenes described charred vehicles and scattered debris along the roads.
The attacks took place despite a US-brokered ceasefire reached in 2024 that halted large-scale fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
Israel’s military said the strikes were aimed at disrupting Hezbollah weapons smuggling routes, claiming the targeted border crossings were being used to transfer arms. It also said a “key Hezbollah weapons smuggler” was killed near Sidon.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the raids, describing them as “systematic aggression” against civilians and a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
The Lebanese army likewise denounced the strikes, saying homes and civilian infrastructure were hit in what it called a blatant breach of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
