Israel intensifies attacks in southern Lebanon with airstrikes, shelling, incursions
Israeli warplanes launch strikes on towns of Mansouri, Zawtar al-Sharqiya as artillery fire targets areas in Nabatieh district
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) – The Israeli army intensified attacks in southern Lebanon, blowing up homes and infrastructure on Thursday, and carrying out airstrikes, artillery shelling and ground incursions in several areas, Lebanese news agency NNA reported.
In the latest attacks, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on the town of Mansouri, in the southern Tyre district.
In the Nabatieh district, Israel carried out heavy artillery shelling on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and the Doha Kfar Rumman area.
Warplanes also struck the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiya in the district.
Earlier, Israeli forces blew up homes and infrastructure in the eastern and Fourth neighborhoods of the Al-Musha area between the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun using barrels containing highly destructive explosive materials.
In Nabatieh, Israeli warplanes also carried out two airstrikes on the Harj Ali Taher area.
In an earlier violation, Israeli artillery targeted Mansouri, and a Merkava tank and a D9 bulldozer also advanced into the town. Israeli military vehicles were seen transporting booby-trapped containers toward the area.
In a separate incursion, Israeli forces advanced into Halta Farm in the Hasbaya district of Nabatieh Governorate, surrounded several homes, and prevented some residents from leaving.
Meanwhile, an Israeli drone dropped two sound bombs on the Azziyeh-Mansouri road.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli forces carried out explosions in the towns of Hadatha and Wadi Baraachit.
Tensions along the border have persisted despite diplomatic efforts to stabilize the area and US-led contacts between Lebanon and Israel aimed at reaching security arrangements and addressing outstanding border issues.
In a statement, the Israeli army claimed that its forces achieved “operational control” above and below ground in the Ali al-Taher heights in southern Lebanon.
It said forces from the 36th Division had recently worked to “clear two underground routes” in the area, which it described as being inside the “security zone.”
The army claimed that a number of Hezbollah members were killed during the operation, while others fled the area, adding that operations in the “security zone” would continue.
Last week, Israeli daily Maariv quoted an Israeli security source as saying that Israel does not intend to withdraw from the Ali al-Taher heights area despite US pressure, a position that runs counter to the Washington-sponsored negotiation track.
Israel’s assault on Lebanon has continued since early March, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring over 12,000 others, besides displacing more than 1 million people, according to Lebanese authorities.
Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades and others since its assault on Lebanon between 2023 and 2024.
