Iran’s interior minister visits Pakistan amid renewed US strikes
Eskandar Momeni leads high-level delegation to Islamabad for talks on expanding bilateral cooperation, with focus on trade, border security, transit and agriculture, before traveling to India for BRICS meeting
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Pakistan on Monday at the head of a high-level delegation for talks aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation, including efforts to increase trade between the neighboring countries.
Momeni is visiting Islamabad at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, leading a delegation comprising representatives from Iran’s Interior Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Ministry of Agriculture, the Law Enforcement Command (FARAJA), and the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, Tasnim reported.
During the visit, officials from both countries are scheduled to hold joint meetings focused on expanding bilateral relations, with discussions centering on strengthening border cooperation and enhancing economic, transit and agricultural ties.
The visit follows Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s directive to increase annual trade between Iran and Pakistan from $3 billion to $10 billion.
After concluding his engagements in Pakistan, Momeni is scheduled to travel to New Delhi at the invitation of India’s interior minister to attend the BRICS Meeting of Interior Ministers and Emergency Management Officials, where participants are expected to discuss disaster risk reduction and regional cooperation in disaster management.
The trip came against the backdrop of escalating regional instability after the United States and Israel launched coordinated military attacks on Iran in February, triggering Iranian retaliatory strikes on American military bases in Gulf countries.
