Iran urges Jordanians to press for removal of US military bases
IRGC says attack targeted U.S. air base used in operations against Iran and calls on Jordanians to oppose American military presence in kingdom
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called on Jordanians to demand the removal of U.S. military bases from their country after claiming responsibility for a ballistic missile strike on an American air base in Jordan.
In a statement carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the IRGC said the attack was carried out during the third phase of the second wave of Operation Nasr 2.
The wave targeted key military facilities and U.S. troop deployments at an air base allegedly used to launch operations against Iran, according to Fars News Agency.
The Revolutionary Guards said the targeted installation had also been used in the military operation that, according to Iranian authorities, killed 186 children in the strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in the southern Iranian city of Minab.
Addressing the Jordanian public directly, the IRGC said its dispute was with the United States rather than the people of Jordan.
“You know well that we have no hostility towards your country. Rather, we love you, noble people, who understand the suffering and injustice endured by the Palestinian people more than any other nation,” the statement said.
The IRGC urged Jordanians to pressure their government to remove American military bases from the country, arguing that ending the U.S. military presence would contribute to regional security and help support the Palestinian people.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported powerful explosions at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan, where U.S. forces have operated alongside the Jordanian military.
Jordan’s Armed Forces later said its air defense systems intercepted four missiles launched from Iran. The military did not immediately provide details on damage or casualties and reiterated its commitment to protecting the kingdom’s airspace.
The reported strike comes as military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to intensify across the Middle East, with both sides exchanging attacks in multiple countries despite earlier diplomatic efforts aimed at containing the conflict.
