Iran says mediation efforts continue despite US attacks
Tehran says diplomatic channels remain open through mediators as continued US strikes deepen conflict and regional instability
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran said Monday it has received proposals through mediators aimed at ending the latest round of fighting with the United States, while insisting that diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside military operations despite the ongoing escalation.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran had been approached through intermediaries with proposals to halt the conflict but declined to reveal details or confirm reports suggesting a possible temporary truce.
Baghaei said Iran remains committed to diplomatic engagement but warned neighboring countries against allowing the United States to use their territory or military facilities to launch attacks against Iran.
His remarks came as Washington continued its military campaign, carrying out a ninth consecutive day of airstrikes that expanded beyond the Strait of Hormuz region to targets in northwestern Iran, including areas near Tabriz.
Iranian officials also accused the United States of striking civilian infrastructure, including a nuclear power plant under construction in Darkhovin, describing the attack as another example of Washington’s disregard for civilian facilities and economic development.
Meanwhile, Iranian forces continued missile and drone strikes against US military targets across the region. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps released footage showing ballistic missiles being launched during its latest operations, saying the attacks were intended to deter further American aggression.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed US claims that Washington seeks diplomacy, arguing that continued deployment of American military assets to the region contradicts repeated calls for negotiations. He said genuine dialogue must be supported by actions rather than military escalation.
The conflict has also disrupted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while the continuing US naval blockade of Iranian ports has further increased pressure on regional trade and global energy markets.
Speculation has also grown over the possibility of a US ground operation in southern Iran following intensified airstrikes in the region. Baghaei warned that any such move would be met with a military response, while analysts questioned whether American forces could sustain operations inside Iranian territory.
President Masoud Pezeshkian defended last month’s memorandum of understanding with Washington, saying it did not compromise Iran’s national interests despite its suspension following renewed fighting.
He acknowledged the economic hardships caused by the conflict but said Iran remained committed to defending its sovereignty.
Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said military operations would continue until Iran achieves sufficient deterrence to prevent future attacks, arguing that ending the campaign prematurely could encourage further aggression.
