Iran moves bill through parliament to regulate transit in the Strait of Hormuz
Iranian lawmaker said on Tuesday that bill to regulate transit through Strait of Hormuz had been submitted to parliament
TEHRAN (MNTV) — An Iranian lawmaker said on Tuesday that a bill to regulate transit through the Strait of Hormuz had been submitted to parliament, as the military confrontation with the United States over the waterway deepened.
Ebrahim Azizi, who chairs parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, wrote on X that the legislation was filed the previous night, timed to coincide with the downing of U.S. drones.
He said Iran was holding firm on its red lines over control of the strait and described the bill as only “the first step,” with more measures to follow.
The move came amid days of exchanged attacks between Iran and the United States over the strategic passage.
Washington and Tehran had signed a memorandum of understanding last month that included a ceasefire meant to open the way to a lasting peace agreement, but President Donald Trump declared that memorandum over last week.
