Iran expands regional cooperation with EAEU, Pakistan in counter-narcotics efforts
Tehran strengthens economic ties with Eurasian bloc while boosting border security collaboration with Islamabad
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran has intensified its regional outreach, strengthening both economic and security cooperation with neighboring and partner countries, as officials pushed for closer trade ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) while simultaneously enhancing counter-narcotics collaboration with Pakistan.
Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister Mohammad Atabak met with EAEU prime ministers and senior economic officials in Belarus, stressing Tehran’s commitment to advancing regional trade and technological partnerships.
Leading the Iran-Belarus Joint Economic Commission, Atabak underscored that “the future of our region depends on the will of its leaders and decisions aligned with national interests,” highlighting Iran’s ambition to contribute to sustainable and peaceful development through scientific and industrial cooperation.
Atabak emphasized the strategic role of new technologies in shaping regional progress, particularly through investments in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and joint innovation projects.
He called for deeper collaboration in creating shared standards, training skilled labor, and fostering technological convergence to accelerate the region’s integration into the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, Brigadier General Iraj Kakavand, head of Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police, met with Major General Abdul Moeed, commander of Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
The two sides agreed to intensify intelligence sharing, coordinate joint operations against cross-border drug trafficking, and strengthen efforts to dismantle narcotic networks along their shared frontier.
The Iranian delegation is also visiting Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, the ANF Academy in Islamabad, rehabilitation centers, and a port control unit in Karachi to review Pakistan’s prevention and treatment initiatives.
Kakavand praised Pakistan’s sustained efforts in combating drug smuggling, with both delegations reiterating their joint commitment to building a secure, drug-free region through closer border cooperation.
By simultaneously deepening trade engagement with the EAEU and reinforcing security collaboration with Pakistan, Iran seeks to position itself as both a hub of economic innovation and a committed partner in regional stability.
