Global aviation body praises Pakistan air traffic controllers
International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations has praised the professionalism and dedication of Pakistan’s air traffic
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations has praised the professionalism and dedication of Pakistan’s air traffic controllers amid a recent surge in regional air traffic.
The remarks were made in a letter by IFATCA Asia-Pacific Region Executive Vice President Cheryl Chen, shared by the Pakistan Airports Authority on Tuesday.
According to IFATCA, the apolitical federation provides guidance, representation and training to advance the status and professionalism of air traffic control, with member associations in more than 130 countries.
“I wish to express our sincere appreciation for the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the air traffic controllers of Pakistan in recent weeks,” Chen said in the letter.
She noted that evolving geopolitical developments affecting regional airspace have increased pressure on Pakistan, which serves as a key corridor linking Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Pakistan’s position has led to a significant rise in air traffic, including the diversion of flights from neighboring airspace, she said.
Under these conditions, Pakistani air traffic control officers managed “substantial volumes” of non-scheduled traffic while maintaining “the highest standards of safety and efficiency,” Chen said.
She added that operations were carried out under sustained pressure, “possibly with extended duties and limited leave,” reflecting a “strong commitment to operational continuity and global aviation safety.”
Describing the performance as “exceptional,” Chen also acknowledged the “vital contribution” of Pakistan’s air traffic control workforce.
