Geespace expands satellite partnerships in Algeria and Morocco
New agreements aim to advance LEO satellite technology, boost digital infrastructure, and expand satellite-based connectivity services across North Africa
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — GeeSpace, the satellite technology subsidiary of China’s Geely Holding Group, has expanded its presence in North Africa through new partnerships in Algeria and Morocco focused on developing low-Earth orbit satellite capabilities and digital infrastructure.
The company reached cooperation agreements with Algerian partners in December 2025 to support the development of satellite-based Internet of Things services, satellite manufacturing and broader technological cooperation.
One agreement was signed with Algérien Télécom Satellite, where director-general Toufik Hentabli and GeeSpace chief executive Wang Yang agreed to work together on establishing a commercial and operational framework for a satellite IoT investment project in Algeria.
The initiative is expected to be implemented in stages and could eventually expand to other African markets as the project progresses.
The partnership aligns with Algeria’s national strategy to accelerate digital transformation by improving connectivity and supporting sectors such as industry, agriculture and logistics through satellite-enabled technologies.
GeeSpace also signed a separate cooperation agreement with the Algeria Space Agency aimed at strengthening collaboration in the production of low-Earth orbit satellites and expanding technical expertise in the country.
Officials say the partnership could eventually lead to the development of satellite manufacturing facilities and a research and applications center, helping build a domestic aerospace ecosystem and expand local engineering capabilities.
The agreements form part of Algeria’s broader efforts to enhance its national space sector and reduce reliance on foreign satellite systems while enabling new services in telecommunications, infrastructure monitoring and logistics.
Meanwhile in Morocco, GeeSpace signed a memorandum of understanding with Casablanca-based Soremar Group to support the rollout of its GEESATCOM satellite communications services.
The agreement focuses on commercializing GeeSpace’s LEO satellite network and expanding its applications across Morocco and the wider North African region.
Soremar, which operates in maritime and satellite communications sectors, is expected to provide market expertise and operational support for the project.
Both companies plan to cooperate on satellite constellation testing, market expansion and developing applications for sectors including transportation, energy and agriculture as Morocco continues efforts to strengthen its digital economy.
