Egypt, Tunisia align diplomacy on regional crises
Foreign ministers discuss Libya, Gaza and Sudan, calling for unified Arab action, ceasefires, elections and humanitarian access
TUNIS, Tunisia (MNTV) — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti held high-level talks in Tunis to coordinate diplomatic positions on regional crises, including Libya, Gaza and Sudan.
The discussions, which included a meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied, underscored the longstanding ties between Egypt and Tunisia and the importance of coordinated Arab efforts to protect regional security and stability, according to APA News.
A key focus of the talks was Libya, with the ministers stressing the need to reactivate the Tripartite Mechanism involving Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria to support political stabilization.
They emphasized the urgency of ending Libya’s institutional divisions and creating conditions for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for a political settlement that preserves Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for the complete withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country.
On Gaza, the ministers reviewed recent diplomatic initiatives and stressed the importance of strengthening ceasefire arrangements. Abdelatty reiterated support for governance mechanisms to manage the transitional phase and called for the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force to help secure calm.
Both sides also emphasized the need for uninterrupted humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
Turning to Sudan, the ministers expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation and called for an immediate humanitarian truce.
They urged the establishment of safe corridors for civilians and agreed that any sustainable solution must be Sudanese-led, inclusive and free from external interference.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continued coordination on regional and international issues, reflecting a shared vision for stability across North Africa and the Middle East.
