Day 6 of war: Israel pounds Tehran, Iran fires new barrages
Over 1,400 drones and 400 missiles exchanged in six days; Israeli airstrikes pound Iranian nuclear sites, Iran responds with ballistic barrages
TEHRAN/TEL AVIV (MNTV) — The Iran-Israel conflict has escalated into a dangerous new phase, with both countries exchanging missile and drone attacks.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Iran launched two heavy barrages of ballistic missiles targeting central Israel and occupied West Bank settlements. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that around 30 missiles were fired, with most intercepted mid-air. However, falling debris caused fires in central Israel, destroying at least 20 vehicles. No casualties were reported.
Israel carried out a large-scale aerial assault deep inside Iranian territory. More than 50 Israeli fighter jets struck over 20 high-value targets in and around Tehran.
These included a nuclear centrifuge production facility, weapons manufacturing plants, and drone-launching bases. Explosions were reported near a university affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), at the Khojir missile complex, and in Karaj, where centrifuge components are believed to be manufactured.
Israeli officials say the objective of these strikes is to neutralize what they call the “existential threat” posed by Iran’s nuclear programme and ballistic missile capabilities.
“We are operating systematically to neutralize the nuclear threat,” said IDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin. He added that Israeli forces have destroyed over 1,100 Iranian military assets since Friday.
Israeli drones bombed five Iranian AH-1 military helicopters at an airbase in Kermanshah. Iran managed to shoot down one Israeli drone over Isfahan—signaling the growing intensity and complexity of aerial engagements between the two powers.
Since the beginning of this latest escalation on June 13, Iran has launched more than 1,000 drones and over 400 missiles at Israeli territory.
Most have been intercepted, according to Israeli sources, but at least 24 people have been killed in Israel and over 500 injured. Israel’s aerial strikes have killed at least 240 people in Iran, including 70 women and children, according to Iranian officials.
Iran claims to have used Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles during the recent salvos—an assertion dismissed by Israeli defense sources. However, the IRGC insists that its “Operation Honest Promise 3” has given Iran “complete control over the skies of the occupied territories”.
Sirens blared throughout the night across central Israel, the Dead Sea region, and even the Golan Heights, with the IDF confirming multiple suspected drone infiltrations. Thirteen drones from Iran were reportedly shot down before they could breach Israeli airspace.
Adding fuel to the fire, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei posted on social media that “the battle begins”, declaring Iran would show “no mercy” towards Israelis. His Hebrew and Persian-language messages invoked Islamic history, referencing Khaybar, the 7th-century conquest of a Jewish settlement.
In a televised address, Khamenei warned that any U.S. intervention would trigger “irreparable consequences” and accused Washington of supporting what he called Israel’s “terrorist regime”. He claimed Israel’s heavy dependence on American backing was a sign of its weakness.
Meanwhile, Israel issued evacuation warnings to residents in District 18 of Tehran, urging them to flee as further airstrikes loomed.
Shortly afterward, waves of Israeli jets struck additional targets in the Iranian capital, with smoke seen rising across the skyline.
A facility linked to the Iranian Red Crescent was reportedly damaged, and strikes also targeted the Payam Airport in Karaj.
