Dagestan sends aid convoy to Iran amid ongoing war
Nearly 140 tons of food supplies dispatched through Azerbaijan as regional authorities coordinate humanitarian effort
MOSCOW (MNTV) — A humanitarian convoy carrying nearly 140 tons of aid has departed from Russia’s Dagestan region for Iran, officials said, as relief efforts continue amid the ongoing crisis.
The shipment, consisting of seven trucks loaded with flour, grain and other essential food items, is traveling through Azerbaijan and is expected to reach the Iranian border within hours, according to regional authorities.
Andrei Tanaev, a representative of the Dagestan government at Russia’s trade mission in Iran, said the operation was organized with official backing and coordinated among multiple agencies.
The convoy is expected to be received at the border by Iranian authorities and Russian representatives, including Andrei Alenkin.
Officials said the aid effort brought together several organizations, including the Dagestan Red Cross Society, the Pure Heart Foundation, members of the Iranian diaspora in Makhachkala, lawmakers, and regional transport groups.
Authorities said the supplies are intended to support civilians affected by recent hostilities, with distribution expected to be handled by the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
The initiative underscores ongoing cooperation between Dagestan and Iran, which maintain close ties in trade, logistics and regional connectivity, including through the North-South transport corridor.
