Central Asian states launch pilot freight route linking China to the Caspian
Route, aimed at boosting regional logistics and trade links, connects China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan
ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan (MNTV) — Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan have jointly launched a pilot transport route connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan, aimed at boosting regional logistics and trade links.
The test route is being implemented through cooperation among the Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan (TULM), O’ztemiryo’lkonteyner JSC of Uzbekistan, and Alliance Multimodal of Azerbaijan.
As part of the pilot phase, four 40-foot containers were dispatched from China to Azerbaijan. The shipment has reached Osh station in Kyrgyzstan, where customs documentation is being processed before continuing by rail through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, and then by sea across the Caspian Sea to Baku.
According to project partners, the total transit time from Osh to Baku is expected to take about 12 days.
Officials say the new corridor could serve as a foundation for a more efficient and competitive trade route between East Asia and the South Caucasus, reducing delivery times and diversifying regional transport networks.
