Russia signals openness to joining Trump’s corridor
Russia is ready to consider possible options for joining the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, or TRIPP
MOSCOW, Russia (MNTV) — Russia is ready to consider possible options for joining the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, or TRIPP, but says the project’s details must first be carefully examined, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Friday.
Zakharova told a press briefing that Moscow understands the initiative remains in its early stages and that key aspects of its implementation have yet to be fully defined.
“As we understand, the development of the project is only in the initial stages,” Zakharova said.
“Our proposal to Yerevan to hold substantive consultations with the participation of all interested parties remains valid.”
TRIPP was formally established by an agreement signed in Washington on Aug. 8, 2025, by the leaders of Armenia, the United States and Azerbaijan. The initiative aims to promote regional connectivity and economic cooperation through new transportation corridors.
On Jan. 13, 2026, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a joint statement outlining the framework for implementation. The plan envisions developing multimodal transit routes through Armenia, including a link between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Region, and integrating the corridor into the Trans-Caspian Trade Route.
Under the framework, a TRIPP Development Company is to be established, with Armenia proposing to grant a 74 percent stake to the United States while retaining 26 percent. The company would receive rights to implement the project for 49 years.
Mirzoyan has said U.S. participation would take the form of financial investment, while Armenia’s contribution would involve granting development and operational rights.
