Catholic Church in Kuwait spreads love, solidarity during Ramadan
Humanitarian gesture sees priests distribute dates and water as fasting seasons coincide and promote interfaith harmony
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (MNTV) — The Catholic Church in Kuwait launched a humanitarian initiative to mark the start of Ramadan and the concurrent Christian Lenten fast, reinforcing messages of compassion and coexistence.
Outside the Holy Family Cathedral, Father Suleiman Haifaoui and a group of priests handed out dates and water to passersby shortly before the Maghrib call to prayer, symbolizing shared values of mercy, prayer and service to humanity.
Father Haifaoui said the gesture highlighted that, despite different traditions, fasting invites believers to repentance and unity, and underscored Kuwait’s role as a model of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among diverse religions.
He offered prayers for the nation’s leaders, seeking continued security, stability and freedom of worship, and organizers said the event aimed to promote a culture of tolerance and reinforce Kuwait’s image as a society embracing religious and cultural diversity.
The initiative was warmly welcomed by those present, who praised it as a reflection of Kuwait’s cohesive spirit rooted in respect, brotherhood, and solidarity.
