Canada Labor Day: Limited Shopping Hours – Here’s What’s Open
Labor Day falls on Monday, September 4, this year, and it is a statutory holiday in Ontario. This raises the question: what businesses will be open on that day?
Below is a list of grocery stores, pharmacies, malls, attractions, government services, and transit options that will be open for business on Monday.
Grocery Stores.
Costco: Closed. This includes Costco Business Center locations and Costco gas stations.
Walmart: All locations closed. Except for the store at 700 Center Street, Thornhill, which will be open between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Loblaws: Two stores open.
60 Carlton Street, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and
12 St. Clair Avenue East, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sobeys: Only two stores will be open.
199 Roncesvalles Avenue, High Park, and
22 Fort York Boulevard, Spadina; Open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Farm Boy: Open locations –

Longo’s: Almost all Longo’s stores in Toronto are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Whole Foods: The only open store is at 87 Avenue Road, Yorkville, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Art Gallery of Ontario: Open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Casa Loma: Open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hockey Hall of Fame: Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Aga Khan Museum: Open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Toronto Zoo: Open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bata Shoe Museum: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Allan Gardens Conservatory: Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cineplex: Theatres in Toronto are open on Labor Day.
YMCA: Toronto locations are open on September 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Services
Banks: Closed. ATMs and online portals will be operational.
Service Canada: Closed.
ServiceOntario: Closed. Some online services available.
311: Toronto’s 311 assistance service is available 24/7.
Canada Post: No mail delivery or collection on September 7. However, private-sector post offices, including locations in Shoppers Drug Mart stores, will be open during regular business hours.
Transit
TTC: All routes will operate on a holiday schedule, meaning subways, buses, and streetcars follow the route’s Sunday service hours but start earlier than usual, around 6 a.m.
GO Transit: All GO Transit routes will operate on the Saturday schedule. If a route doesn’t regularly run on Saturdays, there will be no trains or buses on September 7.
