Bahrain athletes shine at West Asia Paralympic meet
Bahraini competitors secure multiple medals in athletics as boccia events begin in Muscat competitions
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) — Bahraini Paralympic athletes delivered a strong showing on the third day of the West Asia competitions, collecting a haul of medals in athletics while opening matches in boccia produced a series of convincing victories.
In track and field events, Bahrain topped several podiums. Saad Saad claimed gold in the F32 shot put, while Ruba Al Omari secured first place in the F55 shot put. Silver medals were won by Yousif Al Jallas in the F57 shot put and Maryam Al Humaidi in the F46 javelin.
Bahrain also added bronze medals through Zahra Al Jabouri in the F34 discus, Sayed Hussain Ahmed in the F46 shot put, and Amal Fardan in the F54 shot put, rounding off a successful conclusion to the athletics program.
Boccia competitions got underway alongside the athletics finale, with Bahraini players recording dominant results. Sayed Ali Al Wedaei defeated opponents from the UAE and Iraq, while Nouf Khalifa edged past Oman in a closely contested match.
Isa Marjan registered two emphatic wins against Omani players, and Ahmed Reman posted consecutive victories over the UAE and Oman. Ali Buqais also secured a comfortable win against Oman.
Athletics events concluded on Wednesday, while boccia matches are set to continue in the coming days. Powerlifting competitions are scheduled to begin on Friday.
In team events, Bahrain’s wheelchair basketball squad is due to face the UAE in the semifinals on Friday evening. The boccia final is set to feature an all-Bahraini contest between Isa Marjan and Mishal Buqais, guaranteeing Bahrain a top finish in the discipline.
