Amnesty says Israel using starvation as weapon in Gaza
Rights group cites testimonies from displaced Palestinians and doctors as famine intensifies, aid seekers are killed, and blockade continues
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — Amnesty International says Israel is deliberately pursuing a policy of starvation in the Gaza Strip, as the United Nations and humanitarian organizations warn of an imminent famine in the strip.
The rights group said Israel’s restrictions on aid and destruction of essential infrastructure amounted to a “calculated campaign” to undermine Palestinian survival.
In its latest report, Amnesty cited interviews with displaced Palestinians living in makeshift camps and medical staff treating malnourished children in Gaza City hospitals.
The group said that Israeli policies were designed to dismantle the health and social fabric of Palestinian society.
“This is the intended outcome of measures implemented to inflict conditions calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians in Gaza,” the report stated, describing the situation as part of an “ongoing genocide.”
The Israeli military and foreign ministry did not immediately respond to Amnesty’s latest findings.
Amnesty has repeatedly criticized Israel’s war in Gaza, most recently in April when it accused the government of perpetrating a “live-streamed genocide” by displacing large numbers of Gazans and fueling a humanitarian collapse.
The report comes amid mounting concern from aid agencies that famine could soon take hold in Gaza, where millions remain cut off from consistent food, clean water, and medical supplies.
