Iran announces partial reopening of airspace as ceasefire holds
Efforts to arrange a second round of negotiations between US and Iran in the Pakistani capital are currently underway
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) – Iran has partially reopened its airspace and several airports as of 0330 GMT Saturday, in a significant development as the U.S.-Iran ceasefire enters its second week and efforts to arrange a second round of peace talks in Islamabad continue.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said international flights are now permitted to transit through the eastern part of the country’s airspace, according to the semi-official Mehr News Agency. Flight operations at airports across the country will be progressively restored depending on the technical and operational readiness of both military and civilian authorities, with the aim of resuming passenger services for the public.
The partial reopening marks a notable easing of aviation disruption that has rippled across the region since the U.S. and Israel launched their joint offensive on Iran on February 28. Tehran retaliated with strikes on Israel and regional countries hosting U.S. military assets before Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which remains in place.
Washington and Tehran held direct talks in Islamabad last weekend but ended without an agreement. Efforts to arrange a second round of negotiations in the Pakistani capital are currently underway.
