Pentagon intensifies contingency plans for potential military intervention in Cuba
Cuba has faced a prolonged economic crisis marked by fuel shortages, rolling blackouts and limited access to food and medicine
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – The US Department of Defense is ramping up preparations for a potential military operation in Cuba following White House directives to plan for possible intervention if ordered by President Donald Trump, according to reports citing anonymous sources.
USA Today reported that directives were issued to intensify preparations in the event Trump orders military action on the island, while Zeteo separately reported that officials had received a “new directive” from the White House to step up such planning.
The reports followed Trump saying Monday that the U.S. “may stop by Cuba” after the Iran war, calling it a “failing nation,” and earlier suggesting he could “take” or “free” the island.
Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo told Anadolu Agency that her country’s political system and leadership are “not up for negotiation,” while signaling openness to dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
Cuba has faced a prolonged economic crisis marked by fuel shortages, rolling blackouts and limited access to food and medicine.
Cuban officials attribute the hardship to decades of U.S. sanctions, while American officials blame structural economic failures.
Neither the Pentagon nor the White House has commented on the planning reports.
