JAKARTA, Indonesia (MNTV) – Jakarta’s congestion level rose sharply last year, placing the city at 24th spot among the world’s most congested cities, with a congestion rate of 59.8%, up from 90th in 2024, reports Independent Observer.
According to the TomTom Traffic Index 2025, released in January 2026, throughout 2025, a 10-kilometer journey in Jakarta took an average of 26 minutes and 19 seconds, longer than 25 minutes and 31 seconds in 2024.
Average vehicle speed during peak hours also declined to around 22.8 kilometers per hour.
In response to the situation, the Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a number of strategic measures to ease traffic congestion.
Including strengthening the integrated public transportation system across the Greater Jakarta area to reduce congestion often driven by daily commute from outside the capital.
In addition, the Jakarta administration plans to introduce a free public transportation fare policy for 15 priority groups as part of efforts to encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport.
