Alert! Rise in Pickpocketing as GTA Festival Season Peaks
As residents of the GTA prepare for the long-awaited summer festivals, the Toronto Police are warning the public about a rise in pickpocketing incidents, particularly targeting cellphones.
In a statement issued today, police reported that thieves are particularly active during public festivals. There have been numerous reports of phones being stolen from backpacks, purses, and even zippered bags, especially in the city’s 14 Division.
Officers are urging residents to remain vigilant, keeping valuables such as phones, jewelry, and bank cards within sight. It is advisable to avoid storing these items in backpacks to make them less accessible to thieves. Anyone who experiences theft is encouraged to contact the police or Crime Stoppers immediately.
