58 Pakistanis ranked among world’s top 10% researchers
Global Citation Impact Rankings place dozens of Pakistan’s leading academics in top two percent, with health sciences dominating list
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — Fifty-eight Pakistani scientists have been ranked among the world’s top two percent most influential researchers, according to the latest Global Citation Impact Rankings.
The rankings, based on international publication and citation data, highlight Pakistan’s growing role in global research, particularly in health and medical sciences.
Most of the recognized scientists specialize in public health, clinical medicine, nutrition, endocrinology, psychiatry, infectious diseases, microbiology, and health policy.
A smaller group represents agriculture, veterinary sciences, pharmacology, rehabilitation, and behavioral sciences.
Among the prominent names are Professor Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta, known internationally for his work in maternal and child health; Professor Javed Akram, recognized for contributions to academic medicine and health system reforms; and Professor Abdul Basit, regarded as a leading authority on diabetes and metabolic disorders.
Aga Khan University secured the highest number of scientists from any Pakistani institution, with nearly 20 researchers included.
AKU’s faculty has long been recognized for work in pediatrics, nutrition, infectious diseases, epidemiology, and clinical medicine, supported by international collaborations.
Other Pakistani scientists featured include J. Kumar Das, Sajid Bashir Soofi, Zafar Ahmed Fatmi, Imran Rashid Ahmed, Faiza Jahan, Waris Qidwai, Romina Iqbal, Farah Naz Qamar, Muhammad Imran Nisar, Samin Siddiqui, Qurratulain Qidwai, Tazeen Saeed Ali, and Saleema R. Walani.
