US, Russian presidents to meet in Hungary after high-level talks conclude
US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary, to discuss ending the war in Ukraine following a round of high-level talks next week.
Trump said the two leaders agreed to send their respective delegations after what he described as a “very productive” phone call.
The US team will be led by Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “President Putin and I will then meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can bring this ‘inglorious’ war, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end.”
The president added that he will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday to discuss the call with Putin and other developments. “I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation,” Trump said.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the “very good and productive” call, noting that the two sides had agreed to finalize details for next week’s meeting.
Trump last met Putin in August during a summit in Alaska, but efforts to end the conflict have since stalled. The White House says it is now working with NATO allies to increase diplomatic pressure on Moscow, including pushing countries to halt Russian oil purchases.
