US military confirms use of AI tools in Iran war
CENTCOM chief says artificial intelligence speeds battlefield data analysis while humans retain final authority over strike decisions
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — The United States military has acknowledged deploying advanced artificial intelligence tools in its ongoing war with Iran, saying the technology is being used to process large volumes of battlefield data and support operational decision-making.
According to Al Jazeera news, Admiral Brad Cooper, head of United States Central Command, said the systems help analysts and commanders quickly examine vast amounts of information during military operations.
According to Cooper, AI tools allow US forces to filter and analyze complex data streams within seconds, enabling military leaders to respond faster to developments on the battlefield.
He emphasized, however, that final decisions about targeting and the use of force remain under human control, stressing that artificial intelligence is intended to assist — not replace — military judgment.
The disclosure comes amid growing scrutiny over the humanitarian impact of the US-Israeli military campaign in Iran, which began on Feb. 28 and has resulted in significant civilian casualties.
Calls for an independent investigation have intensified following the US bombing of a school in southern Iran that killed more than 170 people, most of them children.
Iranian authorities say the relentless bombardment has killed at least 1,300 people and caused widespread destruction across civilian infrastructure.
Officials from the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that nearly 20,000 civilian buildings and dozens of healthcare facilities have been damaged during the strikes.
The conflict has also fueled debate among legal and technology experts about the growing role of artificial intelligence in warfare and the risks associated with automated systems.
Chinese defense officials have warned that expanding military reliance on AI could weaken ethical safeguards and increase the danger of automated decision-making in armed conflict.
