Türkiye unveils GAZAP, its most powerful non-nuclear aerial bomb
Defense Ministry also showcases NEB-2 Ghost bunker-buster at IDEF 2025 in Istanbul
ISTANBUL, Türkiye (MNTV) — Türkiye has introduced GAZAP, its most advanced conventional aerial bomb to date, during the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025, Türkiye’s state news agency Anadolu Agency reported.
The 970-kilogram weapon, developed by the National Defense Ministry’s research and development center, is designed for deployment from F-16 fighter jets and delivers a significantly enhanced blast and fragmentation effect.
According to ministry officials, GAZAP disperses over 10 fragment explosions per meter, tripling the density compared to standard munitions.
“The explosive and filler design have been fully optimized. All qualification and certification stages are complete, and the bomb is now operational,” an official said.
Alongside GAZAP, Türkiye also presented the NEB-2 Ghost, described as one of the most capable bunker-buster bombs in its class.
Weighing the same as GAZAP, NEB-2 Ghost can penetrate up to seven meters of C50-grade reinforced concrete—three times stronger than that used in nuclear power plants—far surpassing the capabilities of comparable foreign systems.
Field testing showed that when released from an F-16, the NEB-2 penetrated 90 meters into an island target, causing extensive structural disruption, including landslides, gas leaks, and rock fractures across a 160-meter radius.
Engineers extended its detonation delay from 25 milliseconds to 240 milliseconds to maximize destructive impact.
The 17th edition of IDEF is being held across multiple venues in Istanbul, including the Istanbul Fair Center, Ataturk Airport, WOW Hotel, and Atakoy Marina.
The six-day event is organized by KFA Fairs with backing from Türkiye’s Defense Industries Secretariat and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, with Anadolu Agency serving as its global communications partner.
