Switzerland, Greece back neutral probe into Kashmir attack
Switzerland and Greece support Pakistan’s call for a neutral probe into the Kashmir attack, urging restraint to avoid escalation
ISLAMABAD (MNTV) – Switzerland and Greece have expressed support for Pakistan’s proposal for an independent investigation into the April 22 gun attack on Pahalgam, a tourist hub in Indian-administered Kashmir, which left 26 people dead.
The Swiss government offered assistance to ensure a transparent inquiry, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Saturday.
Islamabad has repeatedly denied India’s allegations of involvement in the attack, urging an impartial international investigation while warning that any military escalation could provoke a strong response.
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, in a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and endorsed the call for a neutral probe.
“Switzerland stands ready to offer its good offices and explore mechanisms to facilitate an impartial investigation,” the Foreign Office quoted Cassis as saying.
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for restraint and dialogue to maintain regional stability.
Dar also discussed the matter with European Union High Representative Kaja Kallas, who stressed that peaceful dialogue between India and Pakistan is essential for South Asia’s stability.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have intensified since the attack, with India imposing trade restrictions, barring Pakistani ships, and suspending participation in the Indus Waters Treaty.
Pakistan has termed India’s suspension of the treaty a violation of international law.
Both nations claim Kashmir in full but control it in part, and the region has long been a flashpoint for wars and insurgencies.
As calls for diplomacy grow, the international community remains watchful of escalating hostilities in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.
