Qatar center highlights inclusion during global sight days
Al Noor Center uses World Sight Day and White Cane Day to promote accessibility, independence and participation for people with visual disabilities
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Al Noor Center for the Blind has marked World Sight Day and White Cane Day with an initiative emphasizing eye health and inclusion for people with visual disabilities.
Qatar News Agency reported that the center, affiliated with the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, organized the observance under its “Their light is among us” initiative.
Al Noor Center Executive Director Mishaal Al Nuaimi said the occasions highlight the importance of preventing vision loss and detecting eye conditions early while also protecting the rights of people with visual disabilities to move independently and participate fully in society.
He described the white cane as more than a mobility device, saying it provides people with visual disabilities greater independence and helps them reach public facilities and services safely and confidently.
The center stressed that meaningful inclusion requires accessible physical environments as well as institutional practices designed to support participation.
The observance comes as Qatar continues promoting accessibility and social inclusion for people with disabilities, with the white cane serving as an internationally recognized tool for independent mobility.
