Qatar, Brookfield launch $20bn AI venture
Partnership aims to build advanced computing facilities and accelerate Qatar’s role as a regional artificial intelligence hub
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar has formed a $20 billion joint venture with Canada-based Brookfield to develop large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure, a move officials say will position the country as a leading regional center for next-generation computing.
The partnership involves Qai, a subsidiary of the Qatar Investment Authority, and will channel investment into AI-focused projects both within Qatar and in select global markets.
According to a joint statement, the initiative combines financial resources and operational expertise to build integrated AI facilities that support the country’s rapidly expanding digital and AI ecosystem.
The launch aligns with Qatar’s broader digital transformation efforts under Qatar National Vision 2030.
The country’s Digital Agenda 2030, introduced in early 2024, outlines plans to establish Qatar as a regional destination for advanced technologies by fostering major technology projects, research, and targeted investment.
Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi, CEO of QIA, said the joint venture reflects the sovereign wealth fund’s commitment to accelerating AI innovation and contributing to the country’s long-term economic diversification.
He added that the initiative builds on QIA’s longstanding partnership with Brookfield and directly supports Qatar’s ambition to create an innovation-driven economy.
One of the major planned projects is an Integrated Compute Center designed to expand access to high-performance computing across the region and enable the deployment of secure, trusted AI applications in critical sectors.
Brookfield will contribute through its newly created Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Fund, with the Qatari partnership representing an anchor component of a global AI infrastructure strategy that aims to mobilize up to $100 billion.
Brookfield CEO Bruce Flatt said the collaboration brings together Qatar’s strategic vision and Brookfield’s experience in managing mission-critical digital infrastructure worldwide.
Abdulla Al-Misnad, chairman of Qai, described the venture as a pivotal step toward building world-class AI capabilities.
He noted that leveraging Brookfield’s infrastructure expertise alongside Qai’s mandate to advance trusted AI solutions will help attract new investment and talent while reinforcing Qatar’s status as a regional and international technology hub.
