Qatar Airways launches immersive digital island in Fortnite
QVerse Island recreates Doha landmarks, blending gaming, brand storytelling and travel rewards through interactive missions and digital engagement
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar Airways has launched its first-ever digital destination inside the popular online game Fortnite, unveiling “QVerse Island” as a new immersive platform to showcase Doha and engage travelers through interactive experiences.
The virtual island reimagines Qatar’s capital within a gaming environment, offering players a mission-based journey that begins at Hamad International Airport and extends across stylized representations of Doha’s landmarks and attractions.
Players are guided through the experience by Sama, Qatar Airways’ digital cabin crew avatar, who leads challenges, introduces destinations, and helps users explore themed locations such as “The ORCHARD.”
Hidden areas across the island allow players to discover golden tickets that unlock opportunities to win flights and travel-related rewards.
Qatar Airways said the integration of Sama into Fortnite strengthens the airline’s broader digital ecosystem, which already includes the QVerse immersive web experience, online brand storytelling, and interactive activations designed to connect with audiences beyond traditional marketing channels.
The airline said travel inspiration is increasingly shaped through digital platforms, including gaming environments, prompting Qatar Airways to expand its presence into spaces where potential travelers spend time well before planning a trip.
By bringing Doha into Fortnite, the airline aims to bridge virtual exploration with real-world travel, transforming digital engagement into tangible travel incentives and experiences.
The launch also aligns with Qatar Airways’ wider investment in next-generation digital services, including its rollout of Starlink connectivity across its fleet. The airline currently operates more than 120 Starlink-enabled aircraft, making it the world’s largest widebody fleet equipped with ultra-high-speed in-flight internet.
Qatar Airways said passengers on Starlink-powered flights can access Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 Mbps on routes spanning six continents, including the Americas, Australia, and key destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
The airline added that QVerse Island, Sama, and Starlink together reflect its strategy to create a seamless, digitally driven travel experience that begins long before passengers arrive at the airport.
