Pezeshkian urges faster implementation of mutual accords with Pakistan
Iranian president describes Pakistan as trusted partner and brotherly nation while calling for expanded cooperation in trade, security and other sectors
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the strength of Iran-Pakistan relations on Thursday, praising Islamabad’s role in promoting regional de-escalation and calling for the swift implementation of bilateral agreements to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, IRNA reported.
Speaking during the credential ceremony for Pakistan’s new ambassador to Iran, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Pezeshkian described relations between the two countries as extending beyond traditional neighborly ties, saying they are rooted in deep historical, cultural, religious and fraternal bonds.
He reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic regards Pakistan as a trusted partner and brotherly nation.
The Iranian president commended the Pakistani leadership for its role in recent regional developments, specifically praising Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior military officials for efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting regional stability.
Such initiatives, along with continued consultations between Tehran and Islamabad, are highly valued by the Iranian government and people, Pezeshkian said.
He added, however, that the current level of cooperation does not yet reflect the full potential of the two countries.
He urged the prompt implementation of previously signed agreements, saying collaboration in areas including trade, the economy and security should be expanded with greater urgency.
In response, Ambassador Siddiqui described Iran-Pakistan relations as a model of longstanding solidarity, saying the two countries have consistently supported one another during difficult periods.
He expressed his commitment to advancing cooperation in trade, investment and infrastructure projects during his tenure.
The ambassador also stressed the importance of security coordination for lasting regional peace.
He said Islamic countries should resolve their challenges through unity and dialogue to prevent foreign interference, adding that Pakistan remains a steadfast, responsible and reliable partner of Iran.
