Party leaders pledge to accept results as unofficial vote tallies begin emerging
The leader of Jamaat-e-Islami said that his party would respect outcome of Thursday's elections "whether others accept the results or not"
DHAKA (MNTV) – The leader of Jamaat-e-Islami told reporters at his election office in the Dhaka-15 constituency that barring significant irregularities, his party would respect the outcome of Thursday’s elections “whether others accept the results or not,” according to local newspaper The Daily Star.
When questioned by journalists about the possibility of Jamaat securing a leading position, he declined to make definitive statements but suggested positive trends.
“It would not be appropriate for us to make any advance comment at this stage,” he said.
“We need to wait patiently for some more time.”
Rahman also indicated that should his party be positioned to establish a government, he would pursue collaboration across Bangladesh’s political landscape.
“We would want everyone to stand beside us as partners,” he said.
Unofficial results begin trickling in
Bangladesh’s Daily Star newspaper reports that prominent BNP candidate Md Asaduzzaman has unofficially won the Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) constituency.
“According to unofficial results received from all polling centres, Asaduzzaman secured 171,598 votes, while his nearest rival, Jamaat candidate Matiur Rahman, obtained 55,577 votes,” the newspaper reports.
Asaduzzaman previously served as Bangladesh’s attorney general.
These results remain unofficial pending formal declaration by the Bangladesh Election Commission.
The BNP has announced that its chairperson, Tarique Rahman, secured a commanding victory in one of two constituencies he contested and maintains a lead in the other, though the Election Commission has not issued official confirmation.
A livestream on the party’s verified Facebook page displayed supporters assembled outside BNP headquarters, celebrating and applauding as the announcement was made.
The Election Commission’s results website remained unavailable at the time of reporting.
