Palestinian Islamic Jihad hails Khamenei’s support for Palestinian resistance
Group says late Iranian leader shaped decades of political, military and logistical backing as millions attend funeral prayers in Tehran
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement has paid tribute to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing him as one of the principal supporters of the Palestinian cause and crediting him with decades of political, military and logistical assistance to Palestinian resistance groups.
The statement was released during funeral ceremonies for Khamenei, where millions of mourners gathered in Tehran alongside senior Iranian officials and foreign delegations to honor the late leader, who was killed during U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran earlier this year.
PIJ described Khamenei as “a fundamental pillar” of support for the Palestinian people and praised what it called his steadfast commitment to defending the sovereignty of Muslim nations against foreign domination.
According to the movement, the assistance provided to Palestinian resistance organizations over recent decades stemmed from strategic decisions made under Khamenei’s leadership, making him a central figure in Iran’s long-standing support for Palestine.
The group further said Khamenei’s death symbolized the shared struggle of Iran and Palestinian resistance movements against a common adversary [US and Israel], adding that continued backing for the Palestinian cause remains essential for strengthening solidarity among Muslim and Arab countries.
PIJ also praised Iran’s regional role, saying the country had challenged U.S. influence while defending its national sovereignty and supporting causes it considers central to the Muslim world.
The statement came as funeral ceremonies continued across the Iranian capital, with aerial footage showing millions of people filling Tehran’s streets and the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla, where funeral prayers were held for Khamenei and members of his family who were killed alongside him.
Iranian authorities have described the ceremonies as among the largest public gatherings in the country’s recent history, with senior political, military and religious leaders joining official delegations from numerous countries to pay their respects.
The funeral has also become a platform for Tehran to reaffirm its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and allied groups across the region, with Iranian officials maintaining that recent diplomatic engagement with the United States will not alter the country’s regional policies.
