Pakistan rises to 7th in global generosity rankings
World Giving Report 2026 finds 83% of Pakistanis donated despite economic pressures, placing country among world's most charitable nations
KARACHI, Pakistan (MNTV) — Pakistan has been ranked the seventh most generous country in the world in the World Giving Report 2026, climbing 10 places from 17th position last year, according to findings released by the U.K.-based Charities Aid Foundation.
The report, highlighted by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, assessed charitable behavior across 105 countries using indicators including donations to charitable organizations, direct support for people in need, religious giving and civic participation.
According to the findings, 83% of Pakistanis donated money in some form during the past year, underscoring the country’s strong culture of philanthropy despite ongoing economic challenges.
The report found that 57% of respondents contributed to charitable organizations, while 59% provided direct financial assistance to individuals or families in need. Religious giving also remained a significant component of charitable activity, with 37% reporting donations through religious channels.
Pakistanis donated an average of 1.9% of their income, nearly double the global average of 1%, the report said.
Researchers noted that charitable giving in Pakistan continues to exceed participation levels recorded in many higher-income countries, reflecting deeply rooted traditions of generosity and community support.
A substantial portion of philanthropy in Pakistan takes place through informal channels, including direct assistance to relatives, neighbors and vulnerable members of society, highlighting the importance of community-based support networks.
The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy said the improved ranking reflects both the country’s longstanding culture of giving and growing public confidence in charitable initiatives.
The report positions Pakistan among the world’s leading nations for public generosity, driven by a combination of formal charitable contributions, religious donations and widespread community assistance.
The findings also suggest that philanthropy remains resilient in Pakistan despite economic pressures, with citizens continuing to support charitable causes and those in need at rates well above global averages.
