Maldives prepares to host Asia Media Summit next week
Around 300 delegates from 30 countries set to attend four-day summit, highlighting Maldives’ push to emerge as regional hub for media and tech dialogue
MALE, Maldives (MNTV) — The Maldives is finalizing preparations to host the 2026 Asia Media Summit next week, as the island nation positions itself as a growing center for media collaboration and digital innovation in the Indian Ocean region.
The four-day event, scheduled from May 11 to 14, is expected to bring together media executives, policymakers, and industry experts from across the Asia-Pacific, marking one of the largest gatherings of broadcasting and media professionals in the region.
Organized by Maldives’ state broadcaster Public Service Media in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, the summit is set to host around 300 delegates representing approximately 30 countries. Officials said a significant majority of participants will be international, underscoring growing global interest in the Maldives as a venue for professional and policy discussions.
According to Public Service Media Deputy Managing Director Yameen Rasheed, preparations for the summit have been underway for months and are now entering their final phase. He described the event as a major regional platform that will include senior representatives from leading media organizations as well as government officials at the ministerial level.
The summit will open with a series of pre-conference workshops on May 11, offering hands-on sessions focused on emerging technologies and evolving practices in the media industry. Organizers say these sessions are designed to equip journalists and broadcasters with practical tools to adapt to rapid digital transformation.
Held annually, the Asia Media Summit serves as a key forum for discussing challenges facing the media sector, including technological disruption, regulatory frameworks, and the future of public service broadcasting.
Analysts say hosting the summit provides the Maldives with an opportunity to strengthen its international profile beyond tourism, positioning itself as a platform for regional dialogue on media, technology, and governance.
