A new survey has found that most Americans do not believe US President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – A new survey has found that most Americans do not believe US President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, despite multiple international nominations.
The Washington Post and Ipsos poll, conducted nationwide with 2,513 participants between Sept. 11 and 15, revealed that 76% of Americans think Trump should not receive the award. Only 22% said he deserves it.
Among Republican voters, opinion was split evenly, with 49% supporting and 49% opposing his candidacy, showing a lack of consensus within his own party.
The survey also showed broader disapproval of Trump’s foreign policy: 60% disapproved of his handling of the Russia-Ukraine war, while 58% disapproved of his approach to Israel’s war on Gaza.
Interestingly, 54% of respondents also said former President Barack Obama did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize he received in 2009.
Trump was nominated for the 2026 Nobel by Pakistan for his “diplomatic role and leadership” during its crisis with India.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally handed Trump a nomination letter.
Cambodia also nominated him for brokering a cease-fire between Thailand and Cambodia, while five African nations — Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal — backed his candidacy, citing contributions to global peace.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said they were considering nominating Trump for his efforts to stabilize their region.
Meanwhile, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff claimed the president had “stopped seven wars so far” and therefore deserved the Nobel.
