Lebanon’s Annahar unveils AI reporter for digital newsroom

BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Lebanon’s Annahar Media Group has introduced its first artificial intelligence-powered news correspondent, marking a major step in the organization’s efforts to integrate advanced technology into newsroom operations.

Named “Nahar,” the AI system is designed to support journalists by rapidly processing large volumes of information, monitoring global developments, translating content, summarizing reports and assisting with research across multiple sources.

The media group said the launch represents a new phase in the relationship between journalism and technology, emphasizing that artificial intelligence is intended to enhance newsroom efficiency rather than replace human reporters.

Editor-in-Chief Nayla Tueni said innovation has long been central to Annahar’s identity, describing AI as a tool that expands journalists’ capabilities while allowing them to focus on in-depth reporting, analysis and storytelling.

She stressed that editorial judgment will remain in human hands, with journalists responsible for verifying information, ensuring accuracy and making final publishing decisions.

The AI correspondent forms part of Annahar’s broader strategy to modernize its newsroom by incorporating emerging technologies while maintaining traditional journalistic standards of verification, credibility and editorial responsibility.

Tueni also recalled the vision of her late father, Gibran Tueni, who championed the adoption of new technologies in journalism and encouraged investment in modern newsroom practices and journalist training.

The project was developed in partnership with Points Information Technology. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Bilal Kassasir, said the AI platform is designed to work alongside journalists by handling time-consuming tasks, allowing reporters to dedicate greater attention to fact-checking, analysis and producing original stories.
