Kyrgyz students win seven medals at International Biology Olympiad
National team earns gold in project round and multiple individual honors at competition in Sochi
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (MNTV) — Kyrgyz schoolchildren won seven medals at the Open International Biology Olympiad 2026, according to Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Education.
The competition was held from May 15 to 22 at the Sirius Educational Center in Sochi and brought together more than 100 young biologists from 18 countries.
The Kyrgyz team, represented by six students, earned one gold, four silver and one bronze medal in the individual competition, in addition to a gold medal in the team-based Project Round.
Dmitry Ruban, an 11th-grade student at the STEM school Seytek, won the team’s gold medal in the individual category.
Silver medals were awarded to Nursultan Uvaliev, a 12th-grade student at Seytek; Ulukbek Ruslanbekov, a 10th-grade Seytek student; Atakhan Isiraev, an 11th-grade student at the Kut Bilim educational complex in the Issyk-Kul region; and Anatay Nurlanov, a 10th-grade student at School No. 61 named after E.B. Yakira.
Erzhan Asanov, an 11th-grade student at the Kh. Karasayev Lyceum in the Issyk-Kul region, received a bronze medal.
The Kyrgyz national team was led by coach Askhatbek Temirkulov.
Officials said the results reflected the growing performance of Kyrgyz students in international academic competitions and highlighted increasing interest in science education across the country.
